Citizens’ Police Academy

Find out by joining us this winter for the 12th annual Citizen's Police Academy. This free exciting program starts in January 2008.

You’re eligible if you’re a citizen or community leader who lives or works in the City of Ypsilanti. Submit your enrollment application today!

In partnership with the Friends of the Ypsilanti Police Department, this program simulates a basic police academy from which all police officers must have graduated. Our Academy is a 30-hour program spread over 10 consecutive weeks. Classes are held on Thursdays in the evening.

You’ll even practice your firearm skills in several crime simulations and ride along during an officer’s shift! Graduates also have the opportunity to join the YPD Volunteer Service Corp, and they can choose to do more ride-alongs.
