Ypsilanti Pride Day at the Police Station
           May 20, 2006

Bring me a shrubbery...and flowers...oh, and a tree, too. That's the way Ypsilanti Pride Day went at the police station.

15 police department employees — off-duty officers, command staff, and a dispatcher — and even family members joined nine Volunteer Service Corp members to enhance the station's exterior. Growing Hope provided a design, master gardener and second volunteer, and two General Motors employees rounded out the 40 people providing a labor of love.

Shrubs that threatened to overwhelm the YPD street sign were moved to the front of the building, while other street-side shrubs were removed in favor of a tree and plants. And no landscaping event would be complete without significant weeding and flower planting.

The Ypsilanti Police Officers' Association (YPOA) donated the tree. Plants and flowers for the sign's newly landscaped bed were donated by the Friends of YPD, and the Ypsilanti PRIDE event added annuals.

As you drive by, be sure to admire the fresh look of Ypsilanti's finest. And take a moment now to view how the day progressed.
