The Ypsilanti Police Department would like all of our citizens to have a safe and happy 4th of July. An important piece of a successful holiday celebration is to insure that there are no injuries from the use of illegal fireworks.
”Fireworks are a device made from explosive or flammable compositions used primarily for the purpose of producing a visible display or audible effect, or both, by combustion, deflagration or detonation.” It is illegal to sell, possess, transport, or use fireworks without a permit (MCL 750.243/City Code 74-130). In other words, if it makes a loud bang, explodes, or leaves the ground, it is illegal.
Possession, transport, sales, or use of illegal fireworks is a misdemeanor and could result in jail time, a fine, or both. Your cooperation this holiday season would be greatly appreciated and could help prevent injuries or legal difficulties as well helping to ensure that all of our residents and guests have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July.
